Incentive to read

The Shop on Alamosa’s Main Street has come up with an innovative method to get students to read. They are providing comic books to four San Luis Valley schools in an effort “to get your head out of your phone,” owner Zach Simon said. He and co-owner Carla Smith, left, presented comic books to Kevin Hagan from Skoglund Middle School in Center and Denise Jojola from Alamosa Elementary on Friday.

The Shop is providing 900 comic books valued at $4,500 to Skoglund MS in Center; Alamosa Elementary 3-5 building; Manassa Elementary; and the Centennial High School in San Luis. From left are Smith, Simon, Hagan and Jojola.

The Shop, located at 618 Main Street in Alamosa, offers tattoos, piercings, skateboards, POPS and other collectibles and now comic books, with new books every Wednesday. For more information call 719-992-2002.
