In memory of Leslie “Wayne” Jefferson

Leslie “Wayne” Jefferson, 92, died Friday, September 8, 2017 at Garden Valley retirement Village in Garden City. He was born July 26, 1925 in Akron, Colorado the son of Wilburn Fern & Verna Mae (Riggs) Jefferson.

Wayne lived in the San Luis Valley of Colorado for most of his life. He moved to Garden City in 2014 and has lived here since. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After the service, Wayne returned to Colorado. He first worked as a farmer before becoming an oil inspector for the State of Colorado. After more than 20 years, Wayne retired from the State of Colorado. He was a member of the Community Congregation Church in Garden City and a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge #73 in Monte vista, Colorado member of Silver Theader. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, and snowmobiling.

On July 30, 1947, he married Betty Davis in Taos, New Mexico. She died on November 27, 2006. Wayne later married Macyle Shepherd on April 4, 2009 in South Fork, Colorado. She died on June 29, 2017. Wayne is also preceded in death by his parents: step mother Maude McClure Jefferson: a sister Mary Evalee Jefferson; and a step-daughter Val Potter.

Survivors include 2 daughters Georgie Cummings of LaPlata, New Mexico and Diane Richards of Las Vegas Nevada; 3 step-children Marvin Decker of Nebraska, Barry Decker of Nebraska, and Annette Waetzig of Garden City, Kansa; a brother J.W. Jefferson of Grand Junction, Colorado; 5 Grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 October 28, 2017
