Hospice month celebrated

ALAMOSA – November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month and Hospice del Valle is reaching out to raise awareness about the hospice and palliative care that is being provided in the San Luis Valley.

Hospice is not a place, but instead it is a philosophy of high-quality care that enables patients and families to focus on living as fully as possible despite a life-limiting illness. It also allows families to care for their loved ones in the home with the added support of a hospice physician, nurse case manager, nursing assistant, family support/social work and spiritual support alongside a multitude of volunteers. In short, hospice care combines the highest level of quality medical care with the emotional and spiritual support that families need most when facing a serious illness or the end of life.

Hospice care programs provide pain management, symptom control, psychosocial support, and spiritual care to patients and their families when a cure is not possible. If you have any questions regarding the care that can be provided to you or your loved one through hospice services please do not hesitate to contact our office. We are happy to speak with you about the services provided by Hospice del Valle; 514 Main Street Alamosa 81101, 719-589-9019.

Additional information about hospice, palliative care, or advance care planning can be found at www.hospicedelvalle.org or the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s website CaringInfo.org.

Throughout the month of November, Hospice del Valle will be joining organizations across the nation hosting activities that will help the community understand how important hospice and palliative care can be to a family in need. Please join Hospice del Valle as we team up with Rogers Family Mortuary and the Alamosa Senior Citizens Center on November 16 at 11 a.m. at 92 Colorado Avenue, Alamosa for the presentation of “A Final Gift.” Topics covered will include “Five Wishes”, Colorado MOST (Medical Order Scope of Treatment) and an opportunity to discuss the importance of pre-planning services with a funeral home including helpful forms that you can prepare to make your wishes know. Lunch will be available with prior notification. The cost is $7 for those under 60 and a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and over. Please contact the Alamosa Senior Citizens Center to RSVP for the meal at 719-589-3277.
