Help design KaBOOM! playground on Thursday

ALAMOSA — The Colorado Health Foundation and the national non-profit KaBOOM! awarded the City of Alamosa with a “Build it with KaBOOM!” playground grant that will be used to build a state-of-the-art playground in Alamosa this June.

Prior to Build Day, kids from the local community will come together to draw their dream playground. Elements from their drawings will be incorporated into design options for the playground. The community will then choose the final design of the playground.

The community’s help is needed to prepare for this exciting day on Thursday, May 3, at the Alamosa Family Recreation Center, 222 Old Sanford Road Alamosa.

At 5 p.m. will be the Children’s Design Session and at 6 p.m. the Adults’ Planning Meeting.

“The city is overjoyed to again partner with KaBOOM!” to rebuild and enhance the play space at Lee Fields; a popular summer gathering spot” said Andy Rice, Parks, Recreation & Library Director for the City of Alamosa.

When it comes to community building and quality of life the City of Alamosa believes in investing in partnerships that accomplish these unified goals. The same truth can be said for other organizations in the community and because of this positive movement the city is amplifying the community together! The City of Alamosa is proud to say this community will build another KaBOOM! playground with community partnership support from the Kiwanis Club of Alamosa and Alamosa Youth Football and will recruit more than 200 community volunteers to help build this playground at the Lee Fields. This area is a hub for recreation in Alamosa and, combined with the population from the local neighborhood, this park will provide critical social and physical health benefits for youth.

This playground is part of the Foundation’s locally-focused work that is designed to harness ideas that are generated at the local level and reflect the community’s needs. Through this partnership, KaBOOM! and the Foundation are creating an oasis where kids feel valued and loved, and where their potential is supported, nurtured and celebrated.
