BLANCA — A head-on collision Aug. 17 killed a woman from Denver after her Nissan was involved in an accident on Colorado 160 two miles west of Blanca in Costilla County.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, Sheila Rector, 57 of Denver, was westbound on the highway when she traveled into the eastbound lane and was struck head-on by an eastbound semi driven by Daniel Uthoff, 30 of Sikeston County, Mo. After the impact, Rector’s Nissan became “lodged under the front of the semi,” and both vehicles ran off the north side of the road and stopped in the barrow ditch.

Although the crash remains under investigation, both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
