MONTE VISTA — Harold William “Bill” Plane, March 2, 1928-Feb. 8, 2020.

Harold William “Bill” Plane, 91, passed away at his home in Monte Vista on Saturday Feb. 8,2020.

Bill was born on March 2, 1928 to Fred and Augusta (Stoeber) Plane.

Bill met the love of his life Bertha (Beiriger) in 1946.

After serving in the United States Army, Bill returned to marry his love on Oct. 30, 1952. Together they shared 64 wonderful years and danced countless miles together, earning the name “the dancing Planes.”

Anyone who knew them knew how much they loved one another and to dance, especially to their song “Silver Wings,” and sharing the love of dancing with their seven children.

Bill enjoyed many hobbies, including woodworking, gardening, fishing, farming and raising livestock.

Along with his hobbies, he also held many occupations throughout his life, butcher, farmer, construction and warehouse foreman to name a few.

In his later years, Bill thoroughly enjoyed his daily walks into town, meeting, stopping to visit, and waving to those he saw along the way.

Of all his interests, Bill’s greatest were his love for God, devotion to his wife, his children, and his grandchildren.

Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly miss by his seven children, Darrel (Sue) Plane, Becky (Jim) Gerlock, Sandy (Lee) Jackson, Randy (Debbie) Plane, Herman (Nancy) Plane, Dixie Diltz and Darla (Lance) Andersen; 16 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Thelma Allen and Marjorie Plane; a brother, Don Plane; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Augusta (Stoeber) Plane; his wife, Bertha (Beiriger) Plane; a brother, Jack Plane; son-in-law, Ed Diltz; grandchildren, Melinda Widger, Shane Widger and Joshua Rilling; and great-grandchildren, Bohan Plane and Nicholas Garcia.

Viewing will be held from 1-4:30 p.m. on Feb. 18, 2020 at Rogers Family Mortuary in Monte Vista.

A recitation of the rosary will follow at 6 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista with a funeral mass to be held on Feb. 19, 2020 at 10 a.m. also at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista.  Followed by graveside with military honors at the Monte Vista Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Rio Grande Hospital or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
