Harold “Sam” Dean Swartz

MONTE VISTA — Harold “Sam” Dean Swartz, 88, passed away in Monte Vista, Colo. on Sept. 26, 2019.  Harold was born on May 5, 1931 in Denver, to Oscar Schwartz and Iylene Palmer.

Harold’s chosen profession in his life was teaching, which he dedicated 20 years of his life to educating the youth. Other than teaching, he also worked as a ranch manager, truck driver, mechanic, carpenter and worked with the Rail Road Bridge Gang. He always enjoyed tinkering to pass the time and never failed to have a project in his garage, whether it be a car, truck, motorcycle or tractor. He loved watching sports, especially high school and college sports.

Harold is survived by his children, John E. Swartz of Salida and James (Sabra) Swartz of Crane, Mont.; his siblings, Charles Walsh of Albuquerque and Leslie Lutz of Laguna Beach, Calif.; as well as numerous extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his loving, wife Cleo Mae Swartz; and his parents, Oscar Schwartz and Iylene Palmer and Ann and Bo Walsh.

Cremation was chosen and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Rogers Family Mortuary of Alamosa. Burial will take place after services at the City of Alamosa Cemetery. Casual attire would be preferred by the family for those who attend services. Contributions are suggested to the Special Olympics and may be made in care of the funeral home office.
