Girls’ soccer falls on the road

ALAMOSA — Both Del Norte and Alamosa exploded into the post season with big home wins in round one of their respective classes during state tournament play. On the road the girls could not repeat their success. Del Norte couldn’t get past Fountain Valley’s Danes in a 2-1 game, while Alamosa suffered a 6-0 loss to the Lutheran Lions.

Del Norte fought to the final moment with a game that went to overtime. The Tigers showed resiliency in past opportunities picking up two regular season wins in games that needed to be decided in extra time. Against Fountain Valley however Del Norte couldn't pull off a third OT win.

The Danes seemed to be well versed on what they were going to see against Del Norte. Strikers Chloe McComas and Kendra Parra got their opportunities combining for 8 shots however it was a shot from sophomore Grace Whitehorn that went in for the Tigers.

In net for Del Norte Lacie Jones kept the Tigers in it with 13 saves. The Tigers will lose graduating seniors Mariah Barbosa and Shaelynn Mondragon but look to retain key offensive pieces such as sophomore Parra and freshman McComas for years to come.
