Fritz murder suspect in district court

ALAMOSA — Shawdon McVey, 25, one of four defendants charged in connection with the August 2018 murder of Matthias Fritz, 40, made his first appearance in 12th Judicial District Court on Wednesday morning.

McVey’s attorney opted to waive advisement and noted that the process of negotiations with the District Attorney’s office will take approximately 30-45 days.

District Attorney Crista Newmyer-Olsen pointed out that she wished to have more time to talk with family members and others connected to Fritz. She also made it clear that she wishes to give the case the attention that it requires.

Judge Michael Gonzales found these terms to be agreeable.

McVey will return to court on March 5th. There will be either a plea entry or settlement at that time.
