Antonito resident Frieda Romero, 91, passed away January 6, 2018 at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Frieda was welcomed into the world on March 12, 1926 in Lovatos, Colorado, the daughter of Adonais Padia and Josephine Lujan Padia. Frieda devoted her life to caring for her family. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and gardening. Her favorite hobby included caring for her indoor and outdoor plants and spending as much time as she could with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters Vicki Romero of Manassa, CO; Elaine (Dale) Barela of Wellington, CO; Sharon (Mike) Williams of Manassa, CO; Bobbi Romero of Antonito, CO; son Al Romero of Antonito, CO; grandchildren Bianca Barela, Bjana (Mike) Froman, Brittany (Cassidy) Montoya, Megan (Ryan) Mohatt, Farron (Apollonia) Williams, Brandon (Katherine) Williams, Jonathon Gallegos, Jared (Tammy) Gallegos, Justin (Tammie) Gallegos, Joel (Linda)Gallegos, great-grandchildren Emerson, Hudson, Emily, Aubrey, Manolo, Lawrence “Lynch”, Cayden, Ashleigh, Summer Rae, Cameron, Ayden and Brooklyn, sister Mercy Atencio of Colorado Springs, CO; brother-in-law Celestino Romero of Antonito, CO; sisters-in-law Lottie, Mena and Celina Romero of Antonito, CO. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Frieda was preceded in death by her parents Adonais and Josephine Padia, husband Eusebio Romero, infant son Leonard Romero, grandson Tristan Williams and great-granddaughter Ermidia Gonzales.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will  be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11:00 AM also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. Interment will follow at the Los Cerritos Cemetery in Manassa. The care of arrangements have been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Antonito.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
