Food drive donations to be matched through Tuesday

ALAMOSA — Every year La Puente’s Food Bank Network of the San Luis Valley aims to share the joy of Thanksgiving to those in need. Each year, 700 families receive a Thanksgiving box that includes all the food necessary for a Thanksgiving feast, including a turkey.

The Food Bank Network is only able to provide this holiday joy because of the support of the community. For only $24.08 folks can sponsor a family this Thanksgiving. This small donation, when multiplied across hundreds of donors allows the food bank to purchase food in bulk, greatly reducing the cost of the meal.

Once food is purchased or donated, volunteers will converge to package and distribute the Thanksgiving boxes on November 18th across the Valley. La Puente’s Food Bank Network will utilize its 14 food pantries across the Valley to ensure everyone can enjoy a holiday meal. This includes pantries in Alamosa, Antonito, Blanca/Ft. Garland, Center, Crestone, Del Norte, La Jara, Moffat, Monte Vista, Saguache and San Luis.

Many in the community have already stepped up to help reach the goal of 700 boxes. One generous donor has agreed to match any funds, up to $3,000, received by La Puente from Sunday (11/12) to Tuesday (11/14). Any donation received these three days will be doubled! To sponsor a family this holiday, please consider donating by sending a check to the Alamosa Food Bank, 513 6th St. Alamosa 81101 or donate online by visiting www.lapuente.net/news.  For more information please call 719-589-4567.
