Florinda Maestas, 99

AMALIA — Amalia resident Florinda Maestas, 99, went to her eternal rest on March 15. Florinda was born on May 23, 1920 in Amalia, New Mexico, the daughter of Julian Gonzales and Rebecca Vialpando Gonzales.
She had a gift for cooking and catered many events such as weddings. She retired from Adams State University as a cook. Florinda was a kind and outgoing person, some of her hobbies included gardening her flower beds.
She loved the time she was able to spend with her family and friends. She was a member of Las Carmelitas. She will be dearly missed.
She will live on through her daughters, Elva (Conrad) Mondragon of Littleton; Ruby (Patrick) Mascarenas of Alamosa; Beatrice (Rodger) Maestas-Gallegos of Capuli; son, Gilbert Louie (Shirley) Maestas of Alamosa; ten grandchildren: Brian Mondragon, Wanda Whatley, William and Angelo Maestas, Karl Mascarenas, Amy Mascarenas, Jeremy Maestas, Juan Gallegos, Bryanne Gallegos; 11 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria (Louie) Lucero of Amalia; and brother, Alfonso (Carolyn) Gonzales of Amalia. She was also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Florinda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gilbert Maestas; daughter, Lillian Jacquez; son, Willie Maestas; grandson, James Mondragon; sisters, Aurelia Quintana, Celsa Martinez; and brother, Rudy Gonzales.
