Feliberto “Phil” Salazar

Antonito resident Feliberto Salazar, 97, passed away April 9, 2018 at his home under Hospice Care with his loving family by his side. Phil was welcomed into the world on November 29, 1920, in Mogote, Colorado; the son of Felipe Salazar and Hermenia Lobato Salazar. Phil served in the United States Army and was a World War II Veteran. Phil was a compassionate, loving and exceptional father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who enjoyed going fishing, trucking, working and being with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife Irene Salazar of Antonito, CO; daughters Lorene Thomas of Antonito, CO; Laura (Anthony) Rodriguez of Belen, NM; Catherine Salazar of Antonito, CO; sons Willie (Michelle) Salazar of Antonito, CO; Steve (Jessica) Salazar of Manassa, CO; Michael (Peggy) Salazar of Greeley, CO; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, numerous great-great-grandchildren; sisters Helen (Mike) Pariso of New Jersey and Vangie (Amar) Romero of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents Felipe and Hermenia Lobato, daughter Beatrice Maestas, mother of his children Sophia Salazar, two brothers Victor Salazar, Conrad Salazar and two sisters Bertha Abeyta and Salina Dunn.

A Vigil Service with recitation of the Rosary will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 7:00 P.M at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 11:00 AM also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Ortiz Cemetery.
