Farmers’ Market opens July 6 in downtown

ALAMOSA — The Alamosa Farmers’ Market is gearing up for the 2019 season.  For nearly 40 years, the Market has brought the community together around local foods and hand-made goods.  This season is no exception.  The market is seeking vendors selling products that they have grown, raised and made themselves and that are from Colorado or a surrounding state (New Mexico, Kansas, Wyoming and Utah).

Without a variety of great vendors, the Farmers’ Market would not happen each week.  More information can be found on the market website.

The Market is also looking for organizations to lead our “Play with Your Food” kids activity booth each week.  If you are interested in working with kids for a Saturday or two from 10 a.m. to noon during the Market season.  This is a great way to highlight your organization and be a part of our vibrant market.  Another way to have your organization represented is to be an underwriter.  This is an option open to any local business, non-profit group, or individual.  More information can be found on the Market website under the “Sponsors” section.  Additionally, nonprofit groups are sometimes eligible to have a booth at the Market for a week.  Contact Mandy Pittman, Market Director, to see if your organization qualifies for this opportunity.

It takes a great team to keep the market going.  From volunteers to staff, dedicated members of our local community make this event possible.  For 2019, we are seeking an on-site manager to oversee the seasonal Saturday markets in downtown Alamosa.  For a full job description go to www.alamosafarmersmarket.org. Applicants should submit a resume and cover letter by the end of the day, Monday, June 3 to [email protected].

Finally, the Market needs customers.  This long time market is the largest of the San Luis Valley and is a very affordable option for local foods.  The Market will once again be a part of the Double Up SNAP program offering SNAP approved customers the chance to double the benefits up to $20 each week.  Meaning if a customer comes to the market and gets $20 in SNAP benefits from their EBT card, then the Market, through the Double Up Snap program will give them a matching $20 in Double up Vouchers to spend on local produce.  More details about this program can be found on the market website.

The Market is located at the corner of 6th and State in Downtown Alamosa and runs Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  The 2019 season starts July 6 and wraps up Oct. 5.
