MONTE VISTA — The regular season came to a close for Centauri on Tuesday night, Centauri’s girls earned the win over Monte Vista handily by a score of 63-19.

The Falcons (14-5) needed a pick-me-up after being upset by the No. 8 Alamosa Mean Moose on Saturday in Plachy Hall. Enter Monte Vista. The Pirates (3-15) have had something of a down year and were in the middle of an 11 game skid entering Tuesday’s contest.  Monte Vista’s Analysia Perea would get Monte Vista on the board first. Centauri took over from there putting up the next 13 points. Sophomore Courtney Hamilton had a big first quarter for the Falcons posting 6 points. Hamilton would go on to lead the Falcons in scoring with 16 points.

Monte Vista senior Faith Hernandez stopped the bleeding with the Pirates second basket in the quarter. Monte Vista would escape the first quarter trailing 15-6. Centauri would come out in the second quarter with another scoring run putting up seven more unanswered points before Adelia Romero got Monte Vista on the board in the second quarter. The Falcons would go to the half leading 31-8.

Centauri’s Melissa Wilson would get in on the scoring posting 9 of her 15 points in the third quarter. The Falcons would continue to pour it on triggering a running clock with seconds remaining in the third quarter.

In the fourth stanza Haley Bernal and Madison Plane assisted in Monte Vista’s most productive quarter of the game with a three-pointer each. Centauri’s reserves would take the court to usher the game to its eventual 63-19 final. The win caps Centauri’s regular season.

Monte Vista is scheduled for one more game before the district tournament. The Pirates have a game at home scheduled for Friday night against Custer County at noon according to MaxPreps. Both the Pirates an Falcons will play in the first round of the district tournament next week. The three-six seed matchup will figure to be a rematch of Centauri-Monte Vista in La Jara.
