Eva Amelia Montano

SAN LUIS — Longtime San Luis Valley resident Eva Amelia Montano, 87 passed away on January 7, 2021.  She was born on June 23, 1933, in Saguache, Colorado. Eva was the eldest of 11 children born to Zacarias “Frank” and Amada (Maez) Abeyta.

Eva was a devoted Catholic praying daily for everyone in her life.  On one occasion at about the age of 15 she packed her bags to leave to the nunary; but her father didn’t permit her that choice at the time.

Eva never knew a stranger –her heart was always open & kind to all.  She extended her compact home to many of her children’s friends over the years giving them a place to lay their weary heads and a warm meal for their belly as well as words of wisdom some ears may never hear.

She remembered numerous babies she assisted in their delivery while working as a Nurse Aide at St. Joseph’s Hospital; whenever possible she would remind them of their connection. Eva was an exceptionally hard worker & loved every minute of it. Some of her most cherished times were helping people & families as a health caregiver, even after her health failed her she treasured her time helping others.

Eva enjoyed crossword puzzles, her tela novels and above all she loved her family. Particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she was exceedingly proud of- if you ever heard her talk of them you would know.

She is survived by her children, Debra Kay (Mike) Chapman, Billy F (Ramona) Montano and David Montano, her grandchildren, Amanda (Cliff) Chapman-Shaw, Billy (Sydney) Montano, Kristi (Jim) Alexander and Joe Jensen, her great-grandchildren, Tyler and Tegan Chapman-Shaw, Paris Montano, Devin & Chevelle Jensen and Jacob Alexander.  Her siblings; Joe Abeyta, Alex Abeyta, Raymond Abeyta,  Charlotte Silverthorn, Stephen Abeyta,  Lee Abeyta, Sandy Heinrich and Tim Abeyta. Lena Samora
