Edward L. Gallegos, 73

Olathe, Colorado resident, Edward L. Gallegos, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was 73 years of age.

Visitation and viewing will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m., Monday, July 17, 2017 at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta, Colorado.  Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta with Deacon Price Hatcher officiating.

Eduardo “Edward” Leroy Gallegos was born on October 6, 1943 to Amarante and Felicita (Romero) Gallegos in Antonito, Colorado.  He spent his childhood in Antonito and San Luis graduating from Centennial High School in San Luis, Colorado.

After graduating, Edward furthered his education at Adams State University in Alamosa receiving his Master’s Degree.  

Edward married the love of his life, Victoria J. Duran on September 14, 1963 in San Luis, Colorado.  To this union, a son and a daughter were born.

Edward served in the Army National Guard many years.  He was Catholic by faith and was a former member of the Alamosa Elk’s Lodge.  Edward enjoyed the outdoors; especially fishing and camping.  One of his greatest enjoyments was working outside on his property, he could always be found on his tractor.

Edward retired from the State of Colorado as a Supervisor for the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation in Alamosa.  After retirement, Edward and Victoria moved to Delta in 1999 then settling on their farm in Olathe in 2002 where he resided until his death.

Edward is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Victoria; his son, Ronald (Beth) Gallegos; granddaughter, Brittany Gallegos and two great-granddaughters, Aleyna and Aubriana, all of New Braunfels, Texas; his daughter, Janelle Gallegos; three granddaughters:  Ashley, Amberly and Brandee; and two great-granddaughters, Elle and Adi, all of Olathe, Colorado; two brothers:  Amarante (Carmen) Gallegos of Parker, Colorado and Joseph Gallegos of Pueblo, Colorado; three sisters:  Georgiana Candelaria of Antonito; Mercy (Joe) Rodriquez of Ft. Garland, Colorado and Merline Brinson of Pueblo; and many nieces and nephews.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Amarante and Felicita Gallegos and a younger brother, Gene Gallegos.
