Edna Mae (Cunico) Kelloff

Edna Mae (Cunico) Kelloff departed this life on April 21, 2018 in Phoenix, AZ.  She was born in Sopris, CO on November 9, 1929, the first child of Mary Ella (Ferri) Cunico and Crist Cunico. Her youth was spent in Sopris, CO, a small community west of Trinidad, CO.  Edna graduated from Lincoln High School in May 1947 and later attended Trinidad State College. She was active in choir and a church member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. While attending college she accepted employment at the Las Animas County Court House as a deputy in the County Clerk and Recorders Office.  During this time, she met George W. Kelloff from Aguilar, CO. They were married at St Anthony’s Catholic Church in Aguilar on June 4, 1950.

In 1955 they moved to Monte Vista, CO and opened their first business in the San Luis Valley, the Star Drive-in Theatre. The family business grew to include the Movie Manor Motel and the Movie Manor Restaurant.  They later bought and remolded the closed Granada Theatre and renamed it the Vali Theater; bringing back to life a historic entertainment landmark in Monte Vista. They expanded the theater to three auditoriums and renamed the venue Vali 3 Theatre. In 2013, Edna and family donated Vali 3 Theatre to the City of Monte Vista, wishing to preserve it for future generations. Mrs. Kelloff was active in the family business for thirty years, semi retiring and finally fully retiring in 1994. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista.  The couple loved to travel and visited over thirty countries during their time together.

Edna and George spent her retirement years in Fountain Hills, AZ. They enjoyed time there and developed many dear and close friends. She loved to play cards with friends and family and always looked forward to holidays, especially enjoying her grandchildren when they visited.  She was a member of the Church of the Ascension Catholic Church. The love of her life, George past away in October 2017 after sixty seven years of marriage.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother Crist D. Cunico, Petaluma, CA.  Survived by son, George K. (Judy) Kelloff, Fountain Hills, AZ, daughter Susan (Craig) Miner, Monte Vista. She was devoted to her four grand children Nicholas Miner, Monte Vista, Benjamin Kelloff, Glenwood Springs, Shayla Miner, Denver and Mary Ella Kelloff, Denver,  sister-in-law Nora Cunico, Petaluma, CA and nieces and nephews. Cremation was chosen. Family has chosen to have a memorial Mass in Trinidad this summer and together Edna and George will be interned in Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.  In memory, Edna requested to donate to St Jude Children Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
