Duane Ray Flickinger

SAGUACHE — With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Duane Ray Flickinger. Duane was a caring, considerate and helpful neighbor and friend to all who knew him. We will miss his jolly personality and easy laugh.

Duane was born on March 13, 1952 and passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 19, 2020.

Duane was an avid outdoorsman. He was always on the go. He loved hunting, fishing, working on engines and ranch equipment. He grew up on the ranch in Ridgway and Saguache. Spring and summer he wore irrigation boots and carried a shovel to move the water. Late summer and early fall he cut the hay, baled it and then stacked it. Like magic, haying season was over and elk season began. He knew his way around the Cochetopa Mountains as well as the deer and the elk. Following the hunting season came winter and the feeding process began. Duane spent his days working in freezing cold weather loading hay to feed the cows, calving out and doctoring the sick calves. He never complained.

Duane is survived by his daughters Kimberly (Epi Velasco) and Jamie, grandchildren Payson, Sebastian, Noah and Avi, sister Karen (Dale) Hazard, brother Don Flickinger and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both parents, Marcella and Bob Flickinger.

Because of the COVID-19 health crisis a service for Duane will be held at a later date.
