Donna K’s Cat Tales: Tale of two kitties

ALAMOSA — Earlier this month a 5-week-old kitten climbed into the engine of a parked car in south Alamosa. The car’s owner started the motor and the kitten jumped into another parked car’s engine. My neighbor Marcie Schlaufman called Animal Control. The officer called for a back-up and a sheriff’s deputy came to help. Marcie said that they were there for about three hours trying to get the scared, hurt, hungry kitten to come out so that she could start her car and go home. One of the officers went and got some hot dogs and they got it to come out and go into a live trap. Marcie brought the kitten to me about 9:30 that night. I heart it crying, but there wasn’t anything I could do until morning. I took it to a friend of mine who helps with baby kittens. She took it to a veterinarian who said that the only injury was a hurt tail. (They didn’t take its tail off.)

Kudos to the Alamosa Police Department, Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office and all those involved for rescuing a little, helpless kitten that would have died without their help.

Another little kitten, probably about 5 weeks old, was found at Mountain Home Reservoir by a girl named Jennifer. After she gave me the kitten she asked if she could help me with anything. Among other things she helped me clean litter boxes and clean house. Soon after she gave me the kitten I got a call from a lady that was in a wheelchair and needed a kitten for a “comfort animal.” It was “love at first sight” for both of them.

I have four 7-week-old kittens that need good homes. They go in pairs or all together (no barn cats or mousers.)

A special thanks to Linda Fakenthal who volunteers at the Alamosa Senior Center weekly and helps with computer needs.

As always, I’d like to thank all of the folks that so generously contribute cat food, supplies and money for vet bills to help the feral, abandoned and tame cats in our care. GOD BLESS YOU!
