Diana Cantu

Longtime Romeo resident Diana Cantu, 65, was called home on September 3, 2022. She passed away peacefully at her home under hospice care surrounded by her loving family.

Making her big entrance into the world on March 21, 1957, the beloved daughter of George Martinez and Lucy Espinoza (Espinoza) Martinez. After graduating from Centauri High School, Diana went on to obtain her bachelor's degree at Adams State University to become a teacher. She worked for the North ConejosSchool District for many years until she retired in 2020.

Diana was well known for her compassionate, caring and outgoing nature. In her free time, she enjoyed quilting, gardening, shopping, cooking, baking and traveling. Her greatest joy in life came from the time she was able to spend with her family and friends. She was so well known and will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Juan and Solidea Espinoza, Isaias and Frances Martinez as well as Elisandro Romero.

Diana will live on through her loving husband James Cantu of Romeo, Co.; children Erica (Marcus) Mortensen of Alamosa, Co.; Krystle (Mike) Leyba of Pueblo, Co.; Brandon (Lola) Cantu of La Jara, Co.; Joshuha (Megan) Cantu of Alamosa, Co.; parents George and Lucy Martinez of Romeo, Co.; 13 grandchildren, sisters Vivian (Donald) Gallegos of San Luis, Co.; Darlene (Tom) Medina of Alamosa, Co.; one brother Floyd (Shirley) Martinez of Monte Vista, Co. She is also survived by numerous extended family members and friends.

Cremation was chosen. A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capulin. Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, September 16, 2022, at 10 a.m. also at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Inurnment will follow at the Los Cerritos Cemetery. To leave online condolences please visit romerofuneralhomes.com.
