Denise (Kernen) Dutton

Denise (Kernen) Dutton, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2019 at the Joni Fair Hospice House in Pueblo, with her daughters at her side. She was born on May 10, 1950 in Monte Vista, to John and Wanda (Landon) Kernen.

She graduated from Monte Vista High School in 1968. Denise received a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education from Adams State College in Alamosa, in 1972.

Denise married Mike Dutton on Dec. 22, 1973 and moved to La Junta, where they raised three children, Amber, Jeremy and Dawn. She had the privilege to be a stay at home mom while helping her husband out on the family farm and ranch.

Denise loved the Lord with all her heart. Her gift of service came through cooking for others, sharing an unconditional love to everyone who came into her path. She loved her family with all her heart and had a smile that could light up a room.

She is survived by her husband, Mike Dutton; mother, Wanda Kernen; sisters, Lynn (Jerry) Cody and Evette Young; brother, Tim Kernen; children, Amber (Dean) Thompson, and their children Maddie and Brooke, Jeremy (Shelby) Dutton, and their children Riggin, Reese and Rhett, Dawn Eddy, and her children Cheyenne, Shayleigh and Shasity and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, John Kernen.

Family, friends and others whose lives Denise touched are invited to join us in a Celebration of her Life on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at the First Church of the Nazarene in La Junta, at 11 a.m. to reminisce, grieve and support each other.
