MONTE VISTA — A 100-Year All-school Reunion of Sargent Consolidated School District will be held Saturday, July 1 at the school campus with registration beginning at 9 a.m.

The celebration is a one-day event for alumni, present students and families or anyone interested in this rural school. It is being organized and planned by a committee of alumni, teachers, former administrators and school personnel.

The committee, wanting to have a fun and memorable day, has planned for those attending to be able to tour the campus, a program about present-day Sargent, to recognize those attending, and enjoy a day of reminiscing. 

The meal will be catered by Locavores, a new restaurant business opened in Alamosa and owned by Wendi and Matt Seger, a Sargent graduate. A Sargent graduate and current farmer, using his drone, will photograph the whole group on the football field. The photograph will be available to all who want it.

Sargent, named after C. G. Sargent, rural school specialist from State Agricultural College, Fort Collins, Colo. (now Colorado State University) has seen many changes since the first organizational meetings and consolidations started in 1915 and 1916.

The first building was ready for occupancy in November 1917.  The first graduating class had three students graduating in 1919. 

Harriet Pepper Wright, class of 1945, Monte Vista resident is the daughter of the late Esta McGuinn Pepper, one of those graduating in 1919.  Harriet said she is very much looking forward to the reunion.

Booths in the registration area will have information on the Sargent Educational Foundation, t-shirts and caps for sale, history books on Sargent School and the Sargent and Stanley communities for sale, snacks for sale and information on the 100-year anniversary of the Sargent Community Church in 2018.

Registration fees are $20 for adults and $10 for children, 12 years and younger. The deadline is June 16; however, there will be limited availability for late registrations by calling Lisa Robirds at 719-651-6301.
