LA JARA — Darnell Maze Elgin-Vigil, 85, went to her eternal rest on September 29, 2020 at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Alamosa with her loving family by her side.  Darnell was born on July 25, 1935 in Healdsburg, California, the daughter of Alfred Clarence Elgin and Rose Marie Cordova. She was united in marriage to Armando Vigil on December 6, 1965 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Darnell devoted her life to caring for her family and raising her children. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who enjoyed watching sports, sewing, spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends.

She will live on through her husband Armando Vigil of La Jara, CO; children Linda (Kevin) Johnson, Diana Quintana (Mark Martinez), Elizabeth (Ross) Wilson, grandchildren Josh (Krystle) Johnson, Heather Nicole Vigil(Anthony Padilla), Natasha Mercedes Kiona Vigil, Rochelle Yvette Quintana, Felisita Anatniuq Quintana (Ethan Madril), Ross Anthony Armando Wilson, Nicholas Christopher Stripling Wilson, great-grandchildren Aiyana Michelle Vigil, Kayden Gilbert Cervantez, Danika Annalysia Amilianna Madril, Jaziah Juvencio Cervantez, Tiyana Leigh Padilla, Miles Tolentino Johnson, sister Sharon (Bill) Hellriegel of Santa Maria, CA; brothers Alfred (Carolyn) Elgin of Talihina, OK; Reg (Linda) Elgin of Santa Rosa, CA. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Darnell was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Rose Elgin, sisters Mary (Joe) Mares and Shirley McKay.

Cremation was chosen and a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Alamosa. To leave online condolences please visit romerofuneralhomes.com. The arrangements have been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa.
