VALLEY—The Daniels Fund has announced the names of 240 high school seniors from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming whose exceptional character, leadership, and commitment to the community have earned them a place in the Daniels Scholarship Program.

Nearly 2,000 students applied for the Daniels Scholarship Program this year. Of the 240 students selected as 2017 Daniels Scholars, 156 are from Colorado, 30 are from New Mexico, 21 are from Utah, and 33 are from Wyoming.

Those awarded the scholarship from the San Luis Valley are:

• Manuelito Serafin Casias Alamosa High School
• Michael Ellis Sowards Centauri High School
• Annarose Elizabeth Phelps Del Norte High School
• [Name withheld at student request] Sanford High School
• Zachary Scott Rutgers Sangre de Cristo High School

Daniels Scholars may attend any accredited nonprofit college or university in the United States, and the program covers the expenses that remain after all other scholarships and financial aid have been applied.

“We provide Daniels Scholars with resources, encouragement, and support far beyond financial assistance to help them earn a four-year college degree,” explained Linda Childears, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund. “Our goal is to help each Daniels Scholar succeed in college and ultimately become independent, successful in a rewarding career, and actively engaged in their community.”

With this year’s announcement, more than 3,700 students have received the Daniels Scholarship. At any given time, nearly 1,000 Daniels Scholars are attending more than 200 colleges and universities throughout the United States. Since 2000, more than $154 million in scholarships has been awarded through the Daniels Scholarship Program.
