Damian ‘Day’ Large

Manassa resident Damian “Day” Large, 40, was called to heaven on May 24, 2023. Damian was born on Aug. 12, 1982, to Carlos and Marvine Large of Manassa, Colo.

Damian had several jobs over his short life.  He started working as a water well driller’s helper at the age of 16 to support his daughter. He eventually started drilling for himself and started Colorado Drilling. He also started Rainy Day Seamless Gutters and worked at that for several years. Before his passing, Damian was working for Intec Services, contracted by Xcel Energy, traveling around the country inspecting power poles.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, and classic cars, and was the inspiration behind two awards, the “Veterans Best Car” and “Veterans Best Truck” which will be presented at this year’s Manassa Pioneer Days Car Show. He also enjoyed watching the Denver Broncos and took his mom and dad to a Bronco/Raider game.

He loved his momma very much; he would come in and say, “where’s my momma.” Damian had no problem calling it like it was, but he was also a kind person, if he saw an old lady at the checkout stand with not enough money, he would pay for her. If she was on the side of the road with a flat tire, he would change it. He was very proud of our Veterans and his U.S. Flag hanging on his living room wall and would text dad on Veterans Day, “I’m proud of you dad, thank you for your service, Sailor, and thank Angela for me when you talk to her.”

Damian will be missed so, so much, but will live on in our hearts forever. Rest in peace hito, dad, grandpa, brother uncle, we love you forever.

Damian is survived by his daughter Alexandra, Large of Colorado Springs, Colo., his son A.J. (Sharon Nicole) Lobato and his grandchildren Amaziah Lovato, Nehemiah Lovato and Zebadiah Damien Lovato of La Jara, Colo., daughter Pebbles Lobato of Avon, Colo.; his parents Carlos and Marvine Large of Manassa, Colo., his brother Carlos (Mary) Large of Manassa, Colo.; his sister Angelina Large of Milton, FL, and several close nieces and nephews, Carlitos (Sonia), Jordan, Christopher (Mandy), Johnny 5, Elina, Pedro, Santos, Karlie, Jaziel, Ryan, Kayla and JJ.

Damian is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Cremation was chosen and A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday, May 29, 2023, at the Pavilion just west of the Manassa Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
