Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Smith

La Jara resident Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Smith, 62, died August 27, 2021, at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa.

Cindy’s life began on January 21, 1959, in Durango, Colorado.  She was born to Olin Glen Wade and Nelva Joan (Biggs) Wade.   She married Byron Robert Smith on December 10, 1983, in Alamosa, Colorado.

Cindy graduated from Alamosa High School in 1977.  Cindy started working at Kentucky Fried Chicken during high school and later for Taco Bell.

Prior to her death, Cindy worked as a Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service. She loved her job and enjoyed seeing and talking to folks as she made her route.  She was an avid gardener of vegetables and flowers.  She canned everything she grew plus more.

She loved animals and raised dogs, turkeys (she loved the eggs), chickens and ducks.   In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time in the mountains and fishing for brook trout and watching bull riding on television. 

Cindy is survived by her two sons Cody (Jennifer) Smith and Nathan Smith, both of La Jara, CO; her granddaughter Charlie Rose Smith; her sisters Hilda (Larry) Hunter of Alamosa; Tanya (Kirk) McBride of Alaska/Arizona; and Zina (Harvey) Horton of Alamosa.  Also survived by brother and sister-in-laws; Sam (Geraldine) Smith of La Jara; Sharon (Bob) Shipley of Virginia; Sharlene Smith; Maryann Asher of Colorado; Carol (Doug) Jones of Alamosa; Susan Landon of Edgewater, New Mexico; and Nancy

Perdasofpy of Bloomfield, New Mexico.

She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.   

Cindy is preceded in death by her parents Olin and Joan Wade; husband Byron; and mother and father-in-law Bob and Vivian Smith.
