ANTONITO — The Sangre de Cristo National Heritage Area invites the public to join them for the reopening of the Conejos County Museum and new Antonito SdCNHA office on May 11th from 12-3 p.m. The museum is located at the intersection of Hwy 285 and Hwy 17 in Antonito.

At 12 p.m. noon join Conejos County commissioners, the board members of SdCNHA and Ms. Jr. High Colorado Amaya Garcia for the ribbon cutting. Then stay to celebrate and look through the museum displays with complimentary coffee and hand pies from Cafe de Valle and complementary biscochitos from Rita Martinez.

SdCNHA will have their satellite office operating from the museum and will be open to the public on Tuesday’s and Friday’s from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We are excited to partner with the Conejos County Commissioners on this project. It’s our hope to expand upon the existing exhibits and showcase the beauty, and unique culture and history of the heritage area,” said Tori Martinez, executive director for SdCNHA.

The museum has exhibitions that include: Colorado Wildlife Display including mountain lion, elk, bear, big horned sheep, antelope and otter courtesy of Colorado Department of Wildlife under the direction of Olive Valdez, a printing press and much more.

SdCNHA would like to thank the town of Antonito for the exterior yard clean up and the volunteers that helped reface the paint on the exterior and interior of the museum. A special thanks to Mike Roque for donating a TV so visitors can view Voices of the Valley videos during their visit, and to the SPMDTU for loaning the museum historic items for a special exhibit.
