CONEJOS —Francisco Andrade, 26, Manassa, appeared in Conejos District Court Friday for a hearing on his potential trial date on sexual assault on a child charges.

Earlier, Chief District Judge Pattie Swift was advised defense and prosecution attorneys were working on a plea agreement. District Judge Martin Gonzales presided May 18 and an agreement wasn’t discussed.

Andrade has been charged with four felony counts relating to sexual assault on a child. An employee of the Alamosa County Department of Human Services, he was placed on administrative leave when he was arrested on those charges last fall.

Gonzales ordered Andrade to appear in court again June 29 and go on trial by the end of July.

Also in court Friday was Michael Robinson, who made his first appearance and entered a plea of not guilty to seven counts in connection with the suspected murder and dismemberment of his step-grandfather, James H. Sprouse, 77, sometime between June 3 and 12, 2016.

He is charged with murder in the first degree, two sentence enhancements regarding a crime of violence, tampering with physical evidence, abuse of a corpse, aggravated motor vehicle theft in the first degree and concealing death.

Robinson will be back in court at 10 a.m. July 13 and Gonzales set an eight-day trial to begin Oct. 29.
