Come celebrate Earth Day at the Rio Grande Farm Park

ALAMOSA — Everyone is invited to celebrate Earth Day at the Rio Grande Farm Park this Saturday, April 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the Rio Grande Farm Park, Alamosa Rotary Club and Milagros Coffee House.

The farm park is located at the east entrance of Alamosa on Highway 17, just north of the Highway 17/Highway 160 intersection.

Plant a tree, enjoy a picnic and listen to live music.

Milagros Coffee House and the Rotary Club of Alamosa have joined Rio Grande Farm Park in a goliath effort to plant hundreds of trees and shrubs on the land! Afterward, participants will simply enjoy nature with a picnic and some live music. This is a celebration for the entire family, as ALMA will lead a kids music circle and the farm park’s education coordinator Peter Wise will lead an environmental activity.

“Earth Day is an American tradition born out of grassroots efforts,” said Marlena Antonucci, community engagement coordinator for the Rio Grande Farm Park. “Love our land. We should do it more than one day a year.”

She explained that Saturday’s event will begin with coffee and snacks followed by the planting of about 300 trees and shrubs. Around 11:30 a.m. that morning live music will begin, and participants will enjoy a picnic featuring local foods.

Another event in Alamosa this weekend is sponsored by Adams State University on Sunday, April 22. Everyone is invited to help clean up the campus garden at 10 a.m. on Sunday. The garden is located at Murphy Drive near the Gingerbread Daycare Center in Alamosa.
