Co-pays changing

STATEWIDE — Some Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program) members will see a slight increase in co-pays for three services beginning January 1. The co-pay increases do not reflect a change in Medicaid policies, only the co-pay dollar amounts. Additionally, some members and prescriptions are exempt from co-pays.

Outpatient hospital visit — Before December 31, 2017, $3; After January 1,$4

Outpatient hospital non-emergent emergency room visit — Before December 31, 2017, $3; After January 1, $6

Generic drugs — Before December 31, 2017, $1; After January 1, $3

Those Health First Colorado members who are exempt from co-pays are:

• Pregnant women

• Children under the age of 19

• American Indians and Alaska Natives

• Qualifying former foster care youth

Some prescriptions never have a co-pay, including prescriptions to help Health First Colorado members quit smoking.

The co-pay increases are required under Senate Bill 17-267 which was passed during the 2017 legislative session.
