ALAMOSA — To coincide with the People’s Climate March in the nation’s capital, concerned community members have teamed up with SLV Women Act, San Luis Valley Ecosystem Council, ASU Community Partnerships, Sodexo and the Adam State University EARTH Group to organize a regional event. On Saturday, April 29, community members are invited to meet at noon on Adam State’s North Campus Green, west of the Student Union Building. From there, participants will walk in symbolic solidarity with people in other communities across the United States to spread awareness of the changing climate and the need to protect the environment.

Dr. Cindy Bruyere, project scientist for National Center for Atmospheric Research’s (NCAR) Capacity Center for Climate and Weather Extremes, and Leslie Glustrom, University of Colorado Biochemistry professor, will speak regarding climate change from 1:30-3 p.m. in Carson Auditorium, in the Adams State Student Union Building.

Bruyère leads the NCAR-based systems development effort for the engineering for climate extremes. She plays a key role in the development of the global risk and resilience toolbox. Bruyère has a Master’s of Science degree in dynamical modeling and a Ph.D. in environmental management.

Glustrom has lived her life at the interface of science and society working on issues as diverse as toxic chemicals, livestock grazing on public lands, environmental estrogens and most recently climate change and clean energy. Through 40 years of experience, she has honed her research, organizing and advocacy skills and has achieved excellence and recognition in every effort she has undertaken.
