City fixes water line break

ALAMOSA — The 6” cast iron water main on the 200 block of San Juan in Alamosa burst at approximately 9 p.m. Sunday evening, Dec. 10. The Alamosa City Water Department crew with assistance from the City Wastewater Department crew and City Streets crew was able to repair the line and all services were restored at approximately 12 a.m. Monday morning.

The street (San Juan) will be patched with asphalt on Wednesday, according to Alamosa Public Works Director Mark Wright. About 20’ of curb and gutter was damaged and will require replacement in the spring. A temporary asphalt swale will be constructed for drainage during this winter.

Note the reduced section in this cast iron pipe shown above. There is approximately 15,000 feet of cast iron water main remaining to be replaced in the City of Alamosa water distribution system.
