Alamosa resident Cherryl Renee Vega-Ruiz, 31, passed away May 11, 2018. Cherryl was born on August 3, 1986 in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Louis Vega and Sophia Lynn Dwyer-Vega. Cherryl was a kindhearted, caring and loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt, cousin and friend who enjoyed spending time with her children, family and friends. Her time with us was not nearly long enough, but the lasting impression she left on everyone she met will always remain and be cherished.

Survivors include her husband Ruben Ruiz of Clovis, New Mexico, daughters Makalia, Karma, John, Gabriel, Santana, Josh and Ruben Ruiz Jr., step-father Ernest Maestas of Pueblo, CO; sisters Joann Caballero, Crystal Vega-Franco, brothers Martin Caballero, Steve Caballero, Patrick Caballero-Hernandez, Andrew Vega, Mark (Tiffany) Gurule, Gene (Amanda) Ortega and Troy Broadberry. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Cherryl was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Sophia Lynn Vega and grandmother Antonia Dwyer.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 7:00 Pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 10:00 AM also at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Cremation will follow and inurnment will be held at a later date.
