ALAMOSA — As a prelude to the Grizzly games Alamosa hosted Centauri in Plachy hall. Centauri took down Alamosa by a score of 60-55.

Alamosa (10-9) has been riding out the highs and lows of their league schedule. The Moose haven’t been able to string together consecutive wins since January. Centauri (15-3) have faced their own struggles with regard to the league schedule suffering losses to Pagosa Springs and Montezuma-Cortez but seem to have gotten it all together. Their last six games include a sweep of defending champions Bayfield and avenging victories over Cortez and Pagosa.

Thanks to a first quarter from Martin Garcia, that saw him shooting 100 percent for 9 points according to preliminary stats, Centauri was able to put together a 19-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Alamosa’s Chad Jackson and Brenden Crowther would combine for 18 of the Moose’s 20 second quarter points closing the distance to a 36-29 advantage for the Falcons at the half. The second quarter was the most productive for Alamosa in the game.

While Alamosa did outscore the visiting Falcons they didn’t enjoy their characteristic  third quarter burst. Seven more points from Chad Jackson and Alamosa was able to close it to a three-point game with the final 8 minutes to play. Jackson finished the night with 23 points to pace all Alamosa scorers.

The Moose would even take a 49-47 lead until a basket from the Falcon’s Noah Sowards tied it up again and Garcia sank his third trey of the night to put Centauri back in the drivers seat.  A couple trips for Garcia to the free throw line where he’d go 7-for-7 on the night helped ice the game for the Falcons. Garcia led the Falcons in scoring with 22 points.

The win sweeps the series for the Falcons. Centauri will go on the road to face the streaking Monte Vista Pirates to close the regular season on Tuesday. According to the MaxPreps standings Alamosa holds the number three spot in the Intermountain League with a 5-5 record. With the three spot Alamosa would figure to host Monte Vista in the first round of IML tournament play. In the number one spot with their 7-2 record Centauri would face the lowest remaining seed in the semi-finals in Cortez.
