LA JARA — Wednesday afternoon the Falcons (10-9-0) took on Montezuma-Cortez (3-12-0) as the clouds rolled in. The Falcons took both games from their league opponent, the first in an 11-1 rout and the second by a score of 6-2.

It has been a mixed bag for the Falcons when they face league opponents. Getting swept by Alamosa in late March the Falcons went on to split their series' with Bayfield and Monte Vista. Dropping two more to Pagosa Springs prior to their meeting with Montezuma- Cortez they needed both to stay in contention for post season.

Centauri's Tristen Crowther awaits the pitch. Crowther got 5 RBI and a home run to close the regular season.

Before Wednesday’s games the Falcons held the number 26 spot, which already gave the Falcons some good prospects to extend their season. They added to that prospect in the early game when they swept Cortez aside with two big innings late in the game to finalize their win in six innings. Tristen Crowther led the Falcons from the plate with 5 RBI and getting 3 runs. Off the mound Martin Garcia picked up the win with a 1.4 ERA with Crowther getting the Save.

The second game went equally well for the home team. Zach Martin the Falons jump-started picking up a single and stealing second before a wild pitch got him into scoring position. Garcia batted Martin in with a single to left field before getting home himself on an error to make it 2-0 after the first inning. It was slow going for both teams until the third inning.

With a score of 2-1 in their favor the Garcia picked up another RBI and another run giving the Falcons a 4-1 going forward. Adding two more runs in the fifth, Centauri allowed a final run to Montezuma Cortez in the sixth to finish scoring on the 6-2 win. Garcia led the Falcons with three RBI in the second game as well as off the mound to take a second win.

The two wins complete Centauri’s season. The Falcons will now sit back as the rest of the teams finalize their schedules to see where they will be traveling come post season.
