Monte Vista resident Catalina Gaitan, went to her eternal rest on October 19, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Catalina was born on July 04, 1944 in Los Pinos, New Mexico, the daughter of Arculano Manzanares and Genera Sisneros Manzanares. She was united in marriage to the love of her life Jose “Pache” Gaitan on October 15, 1928, the two shared a long and happy union until his passing. Kathy was a loving and compassionate mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, cousin and friend who enjoyed cooking and going to bingo, going to the casino, playing cards and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed dearly. 

Survivors include her daughters Rosemary (Jesus) Garcia of Sunland Park, NM; Veronica (Miguel) Gaitan of Fountain, CO; sons Jose Gaitan of Monte Vista, CO; Manuel (Amanda) Gaitan of Grand Junction, CO; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, sisters Wilma Samora of Grand Junction, CO; Erlinda Lucero, Lorraine Villagomez, Teresa Guerreo all of Monte Vista, CO; Helen Flores-Sisneros of Del Norte, CO; brother Ernest Manzanares of Grand Junction, CO. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Arculano and Genera Manzanares, husband Jose Gaitan, son Lupe Gaitan, one great-grandson Davian Villa, siblings Junior Manzanares, Angie Manzanares, Ilene Manzanares, Tony Manzanares, Vera Manzanares and Frank Manzanares .

Viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday from 1-5 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Monte Vista. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the River of Life Assembly of God Church in Alamosa. Interment will follow at the San Luis Valley Cemetery.
