Bustos dies in jail in Alamosa

ALAMOSA — Alamosa resident Mark Christopher Bustos, 51, died at the Alamosa County Detention Facility on Saturday.

The death was an unattended death, with cause of death pending an autopsy by Alamosa County Coroner Kevin Rogers.

According to Alamosa County Sheriff Robert Jackson, Bustos was in a holding cell by himself at the time of death, with nothing suspicious surrounding the death. Bustos had been medically cleared to be booked into the jail, according to the sheriff.

Bustos had been picked up by the Monte Vista Police Department on two warrants (failure to appear and failure to comply) on Friday and brought to the Alamosa facility where he was in a holding cell pending detox, if necessary, before being placed in a pod.

Bustos had been fine at breakfast time on Saturday, Nov. 25, and appeared to be sleeping during a subsequent check but had passed away.
