Bondsman arrested in fatal shooting

Bail bondsman Robert Thrash, 29, of Costilla County is facing charges of second-degree murder and first-degree burglary following Thursday's shooting incident on the west edge of Alamosa.

Faces second degree murder charge

ALAMOSA– A 29-year-old bail bondsman from Costilla County is in custody after an exchange of gunfire resulted in the death of Phil Lucero, 28, of Alamosa Thursday afternoon at 2909 West 6th Street. Lucero had an active warrant out of Alamosa County.

According to a press release from the Alamosa Police Department, Robert Thrash is facing charges of second-degree murder, a class two felony, and first-degree burglary, class three felony, following the incident during which he is alleged to have fired shots. The bondsman’s associate, David Heinstein, 29, of Costilla County was also shot and was flown out to a front range hospital where he underwent surgery and is in stable condition.

APD said it was determined that the bondsman and an associate made entry into the residence near the intersection of West 6th and Craft Drive (just south of Town and Country Auto Mall)

around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The press release said a struggle ensued and Lucero and Heinstein were shot.

APD Chief Ken Anderson said his department was assisted by Monte Vista Police Chief George Dingfelder and members of the Adams State University Police Department.

The Alamosa Police Department is working closely with the 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office with this active homicide investigation where additional charges may be filed as more information is gathered. Due to this being an active investigation, no further information will be released at this time.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
