Blessed Brews continues to provide a local flavor

Sisters Lacey Cooley and Marcie Higel are the owners of Blessed Brews

ALAMOSA-Bringing a “Little Taste of Heaven,” to patrons is part of what happens each day at Blessed Brews.

Lacey Cooley, the owner of Blessed Brews explained that the story of the popular local coffee shop began in 2004 with her mother, DeeDee. The operation began as a small mobile stand that would sell at venues in Alamosa such as City Market and Wal-Mart. Later, a permanent location was obtained in the shopping area next to City Market. The shop has now called the location home for five years. Both Lacey and her sister, Marcie left the Valley to attend the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. During that time, both sisters worked at coffee shops. After college, Lacey spent time in Tampa, Fla., and Denver as a teacher.

Eventually, DeeDee was ready to retire. Her daughters had returned to the Valley and soon chose to continue the business. “We decided that coffee was for us,” said Lacey. The sisters became the new owners of Blessed Brews in October of 2018. Lacey went on to note that she had originally not planned on returning to the Valley, but that she is grateful for how things have worked out. “God aligned it all sort of mysteriously,” she said.

She further noted that the local small business aspect is something that customers have found to be appealing. The shop has a wide array of flavors to offer along that accompany locally roasted coffees that come from a Salida-based provider. The blends that are offered at Blessed Brews include espresso, drip roasts in light, medium and dark, and a specialty sugar-spice blend. On average, 75 pounds of espresso and 30 pounds of each of the drip blends are delivered weekly. The Sugar Spice Bean Blend is the original blend that DeeDee started the business with and is available upon request. Blessed Brews, also has a trailer that travels to events across the Valley. The most recent stop was the Creede Independence Day celebrations. The next destination is expected to be the Manassa Pioneer Days.

Both Lacey and Marcie are happy to be able to continue a family tradition of bringing a distinct and local take on coffee to locals and visitors alike.
