ALAMOSA COUNTY — A visitor to the Zapata Falls area whose body was recovered Tuesday evening after she had been missing for two days has been identified as Selene Jara, not Lara as initially reported.

Jara, 29, lived in El Paso, Texas, and worked in Juarez, Mexico, according to the Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office, which confirmed her name and identity on Wednesday.

Alamosa County Sheriff Robert Jackson said an autopsy is scheduled to be performed on Jara, but at this point authorities are not suspecting any foul play in connection with her death near South Zapata Lake. He said search teams tracking the missing woman followed only one set of footprints, which they tracked to the site of her death.

The woman’s estranged husband and two 10-year-old daughters had returned to the parking lot on Sunday afternoon, April 27, when Jara continued hiking towards the lake. She was reported missing when she did not return that evening. Search and rescue teams from multiple counties aided in the subsequent search and eventual recovery of the woman’s body on Tuesday afternoon.
