ASU Observatory to host free viewing

International Observe the Moon Night on Saturday, Oct. 20, will include free viewings at the Adams State Observatory.

ALAMOSA – The Adams State University Observatory will participate in International Observe the Moon Night on Saturday, Oct. 20, with a public night at the observatory from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. There will be a variety of telescopes available to view the moon, Saturn, Mars, double stars, globular clusters, and more.

Dr. Matt Nehring, professor of physics and the Observatory and Zacheis Planetarium director, said one telescope will have a camera attached and participants can take their own photographs of the moon. “Bring a USB thumb drive and you can take your photos home with you that night.”

The Adams State Observatory is located on the north end of campus between the softball and baseball fields by the Rio Grande. Parking is available on the west side of Stadium Drive or in a parking lot. There is no parking at the observatory.

The event is weather dependent, if it is raining or snowing the event will be canceled. For more information email Nehring at [email protected]
