ASU Choir Concert is April 21

ALAMOSA — The Adams State University Chamber and Concert Choirs will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, April 21, in Richardson Hall Auditorium.

The performance will include works by Eric Whitacre, a Morten Lauridsen setting of James Agee’s poem, “Sure On This Shining Night,” the Cuban folk song, “Son de Camaguey,” arranged by Stephen Hatfield, and Kirk Mechem’s, “Time,” featuring Adams State Assistant Professor of Voice Dr. Matthew Valverde.

A special addition to the evening will be the performance of “Unicornis Captivatur” by Norwegian composer, Ola Gjeilo. The text comes from a series of medieval chants completed around 1400 at the Engelberg monastery in Switzerland. These texts are an allegorical telling of the Easter story through the use of animal symbolism and will include a multi-media presentation of medieval bestiary iconography.

Admission is free to Friends of Music and members of Associated Students and Faculty; $1 for all other students; and $5 for general audiences. For more information contact the Adams State Music Office at 719-587-7621.
