APD puts stop to suspected distribution operation

ALAMOSA —  A disturbance call on April 9 resulted in the Alamosa Police Department (APD) taking  Matthew Espinoza, 39, and Tonantzin Gutierrez, 40, into custody for active warrants and unlawful distribution respectively.

Espinoza was transported to the Alamosa County Detention Center for two active arrest warrants, one out of Rio Grande County and the other out of Alamosa County both for failure to comply. Espinoza was also charged with possession of a weapon by a previous offender a class 5 felony. Gutierrez was transported to the Alamosa County Detention Center for unlawful distribution of controlled substances classification schedule I and II, which is a class 3 drug felony and possession of a controlled substance schedule I and II which is a class 4 drug felony.

Friday morning, officers from the Alamosa Police Department received a disturbance call at 1016 Edison Avenue. APD Detectives obtained a search warrant which was executed immediately following the disturbance call at this address in regards to complaints of illegal drug activity.

APD Detectives located heroin and methamphetamine within the residence along with items used to distribute narcotics and one firearm .22 caliber magnum revolver. 

Based on the items located by APD Detectives, it is alleged Gutierrez was distributing heroin and methamphetamine from the residence.     

Alamosa Police Department Detectives also located an older faded red four-wheeler at the residence which is believed to be stolen.  It appears the VIN has been removed and the community’s assistance is being asked for to identify the owner of the unknown make and model four-wheeler.
