Monte Vista resident Antonio “Tony” Ortega, 77, passed away October 10, 2017 at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Tony was born on August 25, 1940 in La Madera, New Mexico, the son of Antonio Ortega and Luz Pena Ortega. Tony was an amazing and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who enjoyed going fishing, hunting, his passion in life was working on cars. He also loved spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Rose M. Ortega of Monte Vista, CO; daughters Erlene Ortega of Monte Vista, CO; Connie (Rafael) Rosales of Pueblo, CO; Judy Ortega of Monte Vista, CO; Jennifer A. Velasquez of Denver, CO; daughter-in-law Donna Lujan of Monte Vista, CO; son Anthony D. Ortega of Monte Vista, CO; grandchildren Jesus (Dena) Piñon Jr. of Albuquerque, NM; Richy (Lupe) Piñon of Denver, CO; Steven (Bianca) Piñon, Michael Piñon both of Pueblo, CO; Tony (Diedre) Ortega of Monte Vista, CO; Kaliano Bernal and Lupe Bernal both of Monte Vista, CO; 12 great-grandchildren, sisters Evelia Gallegos of Espanola, NM; Sophia (Ted) Sandoval of Capulin, CO; Isabelle Ortega of Texas; Linda (Daniel) Mata of Alamosa; brothers Johnny (Susan) Ortega of La Mesilla, NM; Henry Ortega of Phoenix, AZ; Andrew Ortega of Alamosa, CO. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents Antonio and Luz Ortega, sister Adelia Ortega.

Cremation was chosen and a Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, October 13, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 10:00 AM also at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at the Monte Vista Cemetery. The care of arrangements have been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Monte Vista.
