Anthony Christopher Martinez, 56, a former La Jara, Colorado resident passed away at his home in Cumberland, Maryland on November 13, 2021.

Anthony was born on November 3, 1965 to Joseph “Tony” and Querina Martinez.  He was the fifth born of their six children. Anthony attended school in La Jara and graduated from Centauri High School in 1983.  After school he joined the army and became a member of the 101st airborne which was something he really enjoyed.  Upon leaving the army he went to college and then went to work for CSX as a train engineer.  He remained with CSX for 24 years, until his death.

Anthony always had a story to share and an opinion on everything.  He loved to talk with everyone he met to share his opinions.  He had a very quick wit, was ornery, but very loving and loyal.

In 2009, Anthony married Tiffany Malone.  Together they had a daughter, Chelsea.  Along with Chelsea, upon marrying Tiffany, Anthony became a stepfather to Brianna and Cory Malone and a grandfather to Matthew Brands Jr.

Anthony is survived by his wife Tiffany Martinez, daughter Chelsea, stepdaughter Brianna, stepson Cory, Parents Tony and Querina Martinez, Brothers Marty (Melissa) Martinez, Mark (Scott) Martinez, Mario (Moria) Martinez and sisters Valerie (Chuck) Finnegan and Naomi (Randy) Keys.  Anthony is also survived by many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Anthony is loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home in Cumberland, Maryland on Friday November 19th from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m.

Graveside service will be conducted at the Maryland State Veteran’s Cemetery, Rocky Gap, after the viewing.  Full military honors will be accorded by the Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.

A memorial service will be held in his hometown of La Jara on November 23rd, 2021, beginning at 10 AM.  The service will be held at Our Lady of the Valley, Catholic church.
