ALAMOSA — Alamosa resident, Alfonso (Al/Honcho) Romero, 77, passed away Jan. 20, 2020 at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs. 

Alfonso was born on Oct. 27, 1942 in Placitas, N.M., the son of Mary Josephine Leyba Romero and Preciliano G. Romero. In his youth, Alfonso was united in marriage to Theresa Patsy Velasquez. The two shared a short life together as his loving wife passed only five years into their marriage.

Alfonso was a loving son, husband, brother, uncle and friend. 

He enjoyed his daily lunches out with his brother-in-law and cousin.

Survivors include his sisters, Mary Ann (Gary) Millsap of Colorado Springs,  Linda (Danny) Romero of Colorado Springs; sister-in-law, Dolly Romero of Monte Vista; step-granddaughter, Tammy Colby; and step-great granddaughter, Amanda Colby.  He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alfonso was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Patsy Velasquez Romero; parents, Preciliano and Josephine Romero; sister Elaine Romero; and brothers Lowell and Christopher Romero.

A vigil service with recitation of the rosary will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Mass of the Resurrection will also be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Interment will follow at the Alamosa Cemetery. Cremation was requested by Alfonso. Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa have been trusted with the care of arrangements.
