Alamosa sweeps High Altitude Challenge

ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School track and field program hosted the annual High altitude Challenge on Thursday with both teams winning their respective meets.

The Mean Moose boys team scored 185 points and won five individual titles. Jayr Almeida won the 400-meter dash in 52.62 seconds, Izaiah Casanova won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 44.04 seconds, Mike Trujillo won the shot put at 37-10 ½, Santiago Trujillo won the 200 in 23.89, and Mario Villaba won the 1,600 in 4:54.21.

Villaba was also second in the 800 in 2:10.03, Also placing second were Erick Celis-Alvarez in the shot put at 37-1 ¼, Brant Jackson in the high jump at 6-1 and the 200 in 23.90, and Jesse Maestas in the pole vault at 11-2.

Placing third were Jaxon Morgan in the pole vault at 10-8, and Cody Williams in the 1,600 in 5:14.09.

Alamosa also won the 4x800-meter relay in 8:40.16. It was third in the 4x100 in 46.91, and third in the 4x400 in 4:24.20.

The Lady Mean Moose scored 212 ½ points and accumulated 10 championships. Leading the way was Aani Hardesty who won the 100-meter high hurdles in 15.59, the 100-meter dash in 12.47 and the 300 hurdles in 47.08.

Sarah DeLaCerda won two championships including the 400 in 59.71 and the 800 in 2:31.48.

Also winning championships for the Alamosa girls were Miquela Abeyta in the long jump at 15-2 ¼, Kaidence Boehm in the shot put at 31-8 ½, Lia Castillo in the high jump at 5-1, Brooke Gonzales in the discus at 96-11, Kaylee Gonzales-Moore in the 200 in 28.20, and Vanessa Villava in the 1,600 in 6:11.39.

Gonzales-Moore was also second in the 100 in 13.41, and Gonzales was second in the shot put at 31-5 ¼. Also placing second were Madeline Castillo in the 1,600 in 6:11.58, and Lily Heersink in the 300 hurdles in 50.26.

Boehm was also third in the discus at 84-3. Other third placers were Elizabeth McQuitty in the 1,600 in 6:11.74, and Whitney Thong in the 400 in 1:04.40.

The Lady Mean Moose also won two relays. They won the 4x400 in 5:14.45 and the 4x800 in 9:56.95

Centauri

Centauri finished second in the boys meet with 107 points. The Falcons won four events with Austin Stockebrand winning the triple jump at 37-10 ¼ and the 110 hurdles in 16.92.

Also winning events were Mason Sowards in the 800 in 2:09.96, and Troy Sowards in the high jump at 6-3.

Antonio Valdez placed third in the 110 hurdles in 18.52 and third in the 300 hurdles in 47.92. Carson Shawcroft was third in the triple jump at 36-11.

The Falcons were also second in the 4x800 in 8:57.49.

The Lady Falcons were fourth in the girls meet with 47 points. They were led by Maria Martin who was second in the triple jump at 28-4 ¼.

Centauri placed second in two girls relays. It was second in the 800 sprint medley in 2:02.17, and the 4x800 in 11:51.62.

Center

The Center boys were ninth with 15 points. The Vikings’ top performer was Andree Meraz who was second in the discus at 119-1.

The Lady Vikings were 13th with nine points. Ciara Paiz was second in the long jump at 14-9 ½.

Creede

Crrde was 10th in the boys meet with 14 points. The Miners’ top scorer was Ryder Whitehorn who was fifth in the triple jump at 35-2 ½, sixth in the shot put at 36-0 and seventh in the discus at 107-5.

The Lady Miners tied for 10th place with 10 points. Jasmine Laing took second in the high jump at 4-9.

Del Norte

Del Norte tied for fourth in the boys meet with 57 ½ points. It had one championship as Riley Orr won the pole vault at 11-2. Michael Laymon was third in the high jump at 5-11.

The Tigers also won the 4x400 in 4:02.55, and they were second in the 4x200 in 1:43.12.

The Lady Tigers were seventh with 31 points and they swept the pole vault. Aden Howell was the champion at 9-0, Shelby VanZalinge was second at 7-2, and Kenzie Smith was third at 6-8.

Moffat

The Moffat boys were 11th with 10 points. Ziah Pesqueria was the Cowboys’ only scorer as he won the long jump at 19- 4 ¼.

The Lady Cowboys were 12th with 10 points. Shay Sidel was third in the shot put at 24-9.

Sanford

Sanford was third in the boys meet with 81 points. The Mustangs’ only championship was recorded by Gauge Lewis who won the 100 in 11.56.

Ren Canty was second in the 1,600 in 5:04.42 and third in the 800 in 2:14.40. Cash Caldon was third in the 100 in 11.84, and Lincoln Reynolds was third in the 200 in 24.17.

Sanford also won two relays. It won the 4x100 in 46.13, and the 4x200 in 1:36.05. The Mustangs were also second in the 4x400 in 4:11.21.

The Sanford girls were second with 99 points. Holly McDaniel won the triple jump at 32-4 ½ and was also second in the 100 hurdles in 17.61.

Erica Miller was second in the 400 in 1:01.22 and second in the 800 in 2:35.12.

Brecken Crowther took third in the triple jump at 28-4.

The Lady Mustangs won three relays including the 4x100 in 57.64, the 4x200 in 2:03.18, and the 800 sprint medley in 1:58:38. They were also second in the 4x400 in 5:28.05.

Sangre de Cristo

Sangre de Cristo was 12th in the boys meet with seven points. The Thunderbirds’ only individual placer was William Wilson who was eighth in the 1,600 in 5:36.97. They were also sixth in the 4x800 in 10:36.86.

The Lady Thunderbirds were fifth with 38 points. Presley Wilson was second in the discus at 93-3, and Peyton Metz was third in the 200 in 28.78.

Sargent

Sargent placed eighth in the boys meet with 26 points. The Farmers’ top scorer was Josiah Yocom who was second in the 3,200 in 12:27.79.

The Farmers were also third in the 4x800 in 9:37.99.

The Lady Farmers took ninth with 26 points. Bailey Asbell was third in the high jump at 4-7, third in the 100 hurdles in 17.87 and third in the 300 hurdles in 51.50.

Sierra Grande

Sierra Grande was 13th in the boys meet. Its only scorer was Ayden Lopez who was fifth in the high jump at 5-5 and eighth in the long jump at15-11 ¾.

The Lady Panthers did not score.
