Alamosa suspect arrested, Costilla suspect still at large

ALAMOSA– Alamosa Police Department officers have arrested Israel “Izzy” Olegario Raya Gonzales, 20, suspected in an early morning shooting here. He was reportedly arrested without incident near 2nd Street and Bell Avenue.

Gonzales was transported and booked into the Alamosa County jail on charges of First-Degree Kidnapping, Criminal Attempt of First Degree Homicide, First Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Possession of Weapon by a Previous Offender (POWPO), and Menacing (Felony). These charges carry a no bond hold.

According to a press release issued by the Alamosa Police Department, the early morning shooting occurred in the 2600 block of Vigil Way with a victim being transported by EMS to a local hospital where he underwent surgery for life-threatening injuries.

APD officers were dispatched to the scene at 4:33 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered the adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. While on scene officers were informed the suspect fled the scene.

Preliminary information revealed a dispute began among the parties, which escalated to a shooting.

In their statement, APD emphasized that the information being released is preliminary and based on what is known at this time. However, this is a developing situation and any statements made thus far are subject to change as well as charges against Gonzalez.

In an unrelated shooting, Costilla County Sheriff Danny Sanchez told the Val- ley Courier one person was shot early in the morning on March 21 and was transported to the hospital. Sanchez said a suspect is in custody and others are being sought in connection to the shooting. The incident took place about eight miles east of San Luis near Chama. The investigation is ongoing.
