Alamosa splits in twin bill at Cortez

CORTEZ — Alamosa Mean Moose varsity defeated Montezuma-Cortez 4-1 thanks to a strong start in Saturday’s opener of a twin bill, before losing the second game, 9-3.

The Moose took the lead on a passed ball in the first inning and never fell behind.

The Maroons collected 11 hits, led by Kolten Hillis, Gage Calder, and Chance Strand with multiple hits. Kason Smith went 1-for-3 at the plate as he led the team with two runs batted in.

Montezuma-Cortez had six hits in the game. C Herrmann and C Compton each collected multiple hits for Montezuma-Cortez.

In the second game, Alamosa watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 9-3 loss in the second game. Montezuma-Cortez scored on a walk by C Baer in the first inning, a single by A Medina in the first inning, a groundout by C Matthews in the second inning, and a groundout by Baer in the second inning.

The Moose had six hits in the game, with Chance Strand and Caden Alonzo each tagging multiple hits for AHS.
Alamosa is 11-5 and will host Pagosa Springs in a double header Saturday at 11 and 1 to cap their Intermountain League schedule.
